Guidelines for Writing Book Reviews

1. Choose a book from the list linked below

List of books available for review
or
suggest a book to be reviewed by contacting the Book Review Editor:
Rev. Dr. Paul Myhre
myhrep@wabash.edu

2. Book Review length should be approximately 750 words, or 3 pages, double spaced.

3. The title of the book review should be left justified in the following format:
Inspiring Teaching: Carnegie Professors of the Year Speak. Edited by John K. Roth. Boston, MA: Anker Publishing Company, Inc., 1997. xx + 236 pages. ISBN 1-882982-14-2. $34.95.

4. Reviewer’s name and institutional affiliation should be left justified at the end of the review.

5. Please include your contact information: name, address, phone numbers, email, and FAX numbers. Being able to reach you quickly greatly expedites the preparation/review of your article, so give us the best information you can.

6. Note the Style Sheet for additional requirements.

7. Electronic submissions by email attachment are preferred. Alternatively you may submit an article by mail, on a floppy disk or cd.

8. The deadline for a book review is within 4 to 6 weeks or at least 3 months (or per previous arrangement) of the time at which you receive the book from us. If you are unable to meet this schedule, please notify Paul Myhre, Managing Editor, as soon as possible so other arrangements can be made. The journal strives to keep reviews current; unless circumstances warrant, the journal staff does not ordinarily accept reviews of materials whose publication date is older than 2 years.

9. Acceptance for publication
The editorial staff will inform you of their decision about publication and the publication schedule. Text will be edited to the standards of our style sheet and for consistent usage in the journal.

10. Authors will be contacted about editorial changes that might affect substance. That is why phone, FAX, and email addresses are important. If we cannot contact you, we may be forced to make the changes in order to meet our production deadline, so please reply promptly.

11. Copyright Form. You will be notified by email if your submission is accepted. We will also mail you a copyright assignment form which Blackwell requires from each author prior to publication. Please promptly return it by mail. If necessary, you may fax the form to us (765-361-6051) but the original must follow within seven days since Blackwell must have an original signature before beginning production. Please return it as soon as you receive it, so that journal production is not delayed.

12. Copy-Editing. Text will be copy-edited to the standards of our style sheet and for consistent usage in the journal. Authors will be contacted about editorial changes which might affect substance. That is why phone, fax, and email addresses are important. If we cannot contact you, we may be forced to make the changes in order to meet our production deadline, so please reply promptly.

13. Page Proofs. Blackwell Publishing will send you an email alert containing a link to a web site where you can download your article as a pdf. Please note any necessary changes to Thomas Pearson, Managing Editor (contact information below) through email or by printing out and mailing or faxing your changes.

Please keep revisions to a minimum, as changes at the page proof stage are costly. Please do not make corrections except for clear errors. Remember that some changes will reflect copy editing.

Please send your corrected proof sheets within two weeks after you have received them from Blackwell. Send to Thomas Pearson, Managing Editor, at the address below. Please notify Thomas, as well, if there are no corrections.

14. Authors will receive a pdf offprint of their essay upon publication.
