COURSE OBJECTIVES

(1) To introduce students to the full range of Buddhist thought from the early sutras to Zen;

(2) To allow students to appreciate the philosophical acumen and depth of major Buddhist philosophers;

(3) To expose students to the wide diversity and richness of Buddhism as a religion;

(4) To discuss parallels between Buddhist and Euro-American philosophy;

(5) To encourage personal appropriation of aspects of Buddhist philosophy and religion.
