You are asked to do a 4-5 minute presentation on a religious group or phenomenon of your own choice. First, choose a religious group or phenomenon you wish to present on. Hand in a sheet of paper, typed and with your name on it, on which you clearly identify what topic you are interested in and why (write about two paragraphs). Due: Wednesday, Jan 20.

Second, do some research on the religious group or phenomenon. You may want to consult our textbook, relevant articles in the reading materials, scholarly books and journals, etc. Information obtained from the Internet and multimedia applications will be the subject of a separate project. Spend a little time in the library, and let me know if there are any problems! Then, prepare a preliminary presentation and provide me with a presentation handout that you wish to distribute at the beginning of your presentation. The outline should identify you, your topic, and the major points of your presentation (in chronological order). Also, if you have any statistical information, please include it in the handout. A one-to-two-page handout (typed) should be enough. Once I have received your handout, I may make some suggestions that you might consider in a revision. The due date is Wednesday, Feb 3.

Third, prepare the presentation further, and give it. Your presentation should be orderly and structured. You will do well if you address the following aspects:

- What is your topic about? (Do not assume that anyone has any prior knowledge of it.)

- Why are you interested in it?

- What is the main information about the religious group or phenomenon you think the other students and I should know?

Unless necessary for clarification, you will not be interrupted during your presentation. (Be prepared, however, to answer questions afterwards.) Practice, and make sure you stay within the 4-5 minute time limit! This is where presentations sometimes go wrong! Presentations will take place in week 5 (Feb 8-12).

You are also required to write a brief paper based on the research you have done for your presentation. It should be between 3-4 pages in length (typed double-spaced, and stapled). Follow the format for the previous assignments. Similar to your presentation, describe the religious group or phenomenon and provide some information about it in a clear and straightforward fashion. Include references to your sources, and check for grammatical and spelling errors. Give it your best shot! Due W, Feb 17.
