REL 300 - Critical Reviews

Guidelines:

Your critical review should be about 3-5 pages in length, and you can assume your audience is familiar with the work in question. Therefore, of more interest than a summary or recapitulation, is your own informed evaluation. Essentially the task is to situate the work within the context of the course and to highlight what themes or motifs are most important given what you have already read and discussed in class. As such, the review is more than merely a statment of your opinion and/or taste, but need not be a comprehensive research project. You might think of it as an opportunity to exercise the kind of thinking we will be discussing throughout the semester whereby you isolate why a particular work might be especially meaningful in giving expression to a certain quality of existence.
